(THE FOLLOWING IS SENT AS A PRIVATE PERSONAL COMMUNICATION, AND SHOULD NOT BE IN ANY WAY CONSTRUED TO CONVEY ANY POSITION OF ANY OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT ENTITY.)
Illegal aliens should be treated as invaders–whether armed or not, whether smuggling drugs or not. That means they should be fired upon with lethal weapons on sight, period. But the American people are too wimpy to do that. They would yell and scream when one underage or "innocent" illegal–that is, one guilty "only" of the crime of invading our country–is killed, and so these rules of engagement are put into effect. (And yes, the issue really is that simple and cut-and-dry.) As a result, heroes die and America is less safe.
-
Shame on the American people for their moral cowardice.

FOLLOWUP: You know, it really is more and more amazing the more one thinks about it. We are a country which maintains arms for the sole use of destroying cities with millions of "innocent" women and children who just happen to be residents of a country with which we might find ourselves at war, yet we cringe to the point of paralysis thinking about the idea a single child being killed by us when literally part of an invasion of our land.
-
Sometimes I say extremely-worded things to get points across and express realistic solutions to issues. Here, though, the more I think about it, the less "extreme" any of this sounds. Instead, it is dead on the money. If the American people want to maintain their homeland, they will have to do WHATEVER it takes–and do so without flinching, without questioning, and with complete guarantees of immunity to those doing the "dirty work". (And it says a lot about our meek will that we call such work, "dirty".) Short of that, it is hopeless.
