Packed away eight years of memories today. Having completed my term of Army National Guard service [as of 15 SEP 2013], I packed into my green plastic footlocker (some of you know the type I'm talking about) the memorabilia, as it were, of my service. One complete ACU uniform (minus boots), one complete BDU uniform (again, minus boots), one complete issue IPFU, one semi-complete Class A green dress uniform (hasn't fit in years!), one set of old "marshmellow" PT gear, a treasured gift received from dear friends during my tour in Kosovo (just about the only civiliany thing included), and a number of other items. I kept out a few things--civilian-usable gear, key paperwork, the Army Achievement Medal I received for the data-entry "surge" in Kosovo, a few other items, and the flag case received after completing my two tours (pictured--I'll fix the flag alignment, don't worry). The plan is to lock it shut (before it bursts from being so overfilled) and store it with other "heirloom" boxes of the family.
And such is my service to, as I would often say, "God, king, flag, and country."
Thank you for this indulgence.
