THE DAILY FUDD: E:28: "A fudd set that should appeal to both sides--plus having a 'political' symbolism."

Image
This edition was reproduced in TDF 120 with one paragraph added. That paragraph is added here in red . ------------------------------------------ In the 1970s, the clear focus of gun control advocates was banning handguns. Long guns received little attention beyond what had been done in the 1968 Gun Control Act and the movie, The Deadly Tower about the 1966 University of Texas shooting. Normal criminality--not concerns about "militias," terrorism or insurrection, or the rare mass shooting--seemed to be the genuine focus. Even as late at 1988 and the infamous "Sugarmann Memo," some circles put long gun controls as simply political steps to handgun control. This is no longer the case. The "Black Rifle Craze" that started in the early 1980s ended up completely flipping that picture. Aside from magazine capacities, most typical-configuration handguns have been left virtually untouched by "assault weapon" legislation (save in some odd technical poi...

People see what they expect to see ("Berenstein"). Movie lines get adapted later when people use them ("Luke, I am your father"--I remember that one shifting to that for a candy bar commercial). People deceive themselves, whether to back up a mistake/lie or to make a preference "real" ("It's not a lie if you believe it"--George Costanza). We are inundated with information more than ever in recorded human history (the Internet).   (Yes, it's happened to me very substantively at least twice.) ----------------------------------- Interesting, but realistic. THE DAILY FUDD: E:27: "The REVOLVER as iconic in American (and thus Western) heritage."

Image
If maintaining our heritage comes down to two practical objects, it would be Old Glory and a revolver. (And Old Glory can be recreated and drawn from memory.) Originally posted at, and slightly edited from a greater discussion of iconography from:   American iconography and minimalist RKBA -- If America as we know it in heritage fails.    https://catsgunsandnationalsecurity.blogspot.com/2021/01/american-iconography-and-minimalist.html   The Right to Arms is second only to Freedom of Religion as iconic of American culture. And given the private prayer and worship can generally be retained in a Leftist-Socialist state (again, PRIVATE), the outward expression of American culture is not a cross (or Star of David, or whatever), but a weapon. And the most iconic American arm still meaningful, rivaled only by a lever-action rifle, is the revolver. Essentially the invention of American COL Samuel Colt, it spawned the saying, "God created all men, but Colonel Colt made all me...
