MY COMMENT: “The video makes a number of positive points for a .308 battle rifle for civilians. To add to them and to counter some of the counterpoints: Most civilians lack the training and discipline to run fire-and-maneuver, or to truly employ all the little added accessories talked about. A largely featureless and baseline rifle in .308 will fulfill the function to which civilians were likely be put to in a militia situation — offering fixed-position support-by-fire to more capable forces — saving weapon weight. Ammo weight is also less an issue, as civilians will likely have to be trucked around, lacking the discipline for long marches. Using an AK pattern rifle like a Saiga or Vepr will also help in maintenance, given the civilians not being under military discipline.”

Why This Ammo Shortage Is Different - YouTube MY COMMENT : It goes to how capitalism rations supplies. Price jump in crisis situations supposedly makes people only buy what they need, leaving some for others. It has its weaknesses to say the least, but it's the nature of our economic system. An alternative would be a government-directed rationing system--so much ammo per family based on size, nature, caliber, and need. MY COMMENT : (VIDEO WAS SPONSORED BY A COMPANY SELLING SUCH GEAR.) Non-vet civilians will never (legitimately) be running fire-and-maneuver calling for all that gear. In a real and legitimate Militia situation they will be fire support, set-position defense, and logistics. A simple mag pack is quite sufficient. Beyond that, anything much more than a pack or such for evacuating in a disaster is a hobby at best and a delusion at worst. I'm a vet. I served in a combat zone. I have a vest, CamelBak, and pack which I acquired during my service, and keep solely to be able to quickly bug out of town in a disaster, be it on foot or in an official evac vehicle with limited space. To non-vet LARPers: Buy what you want. Support this guy's sponsor. But keep in mind you are NOT the same as veterans. You lack the training and DISCIPLINE that veterans had drilled into them.
