ACT! for America

The Engine Behind ACT! for America's Growth By Kelly Cook, National Field Director

Dear Lee,

Many of our supporters have commented on the meteoric growth of our organization over the past 4 years.
The growth curve has been steep by design. We understand that small organizations can win small victories, but it takes large organizations to truly win the big ones—victories that are culture changing and capable of ultimately protecting the nation.

This is why everything we do contains an element of growth to ACT! for America. As we become a larger factor in Washington DC and the nation's Statehouses, our capacity to pass meaningful legislation grows as well.

I'd like to share with you the single largest element responsible for our rapid growth: Booking Brigitte Gabriel into large church and tea party events.

Wherever we go, her vital message spreads like wildfire. We see new chapters spring up and new volunteers who are energized! This activity literally spurs our growth—a growth that is vital in order to be in a position to actually arrest the growth of radical Islam and Sharia law in the U.S.

I'm writing you today because you may know the leadership of a large church containing at least 600 seats or more (or a tea party capable of bringing out at least 1500 people to a special event).
We are necessarily restricted to larger venues only in order to maximize Brigitte's time and to insure our growth continues at the same pace we are currently experiencing.

If you know the leadership of a large church or tea party, please make this opportunity known to them. We don't charge a dime (to bring in one of the top 50 speakers in the nation!) if we can recruit members for ACT! for America and hold a book signing with Brigitte Gabriel at the conclusion of the presentation.

If the church or tea party leadership team is interested, please email me at:

chapters@actforamerica.org

Make sure you put "Church Event" or "Tea Party Event" in the subject line of the email and give me all the contact information you have for them.

I will make sure they receive all the information they need, answer any questions and book the event!

When this happens in your area, you will see an explosion of membership and chapter growth much like every other area where we have shared these truths.

As we grow, we will be able to step up to new challenges that only the largest grassroots organization in the national security movement can adequately accomplish.

Thank you!

YOU BE THE JUDGE--"Dueling shotguns" (well, sorta)

Below are two renditions of the Miranda Lambert song, "Gunpowder and Lead". The first is by Ms. Lambert, now Mrs. Blake Shelton (but who know how long that'll last?). The second is by the Missouri Air National Guard band Sidewinder, with Air Force Staff Sergeant (that's E5) Angie Johnson--now featured on television's "The Voice"--in lead.

Message about new activism approach (reprinted here)

As some of you know, I am trying to be more policy-focused than politician-focused in my exercising of political rights as an American citizen.  In evaluating the current situation in both the country and my life, this will be my new policy:
-
1. THE BIG THREE ISSUES (GRA, or CGNS): National security (GWOT); Right to Keep and Bear Arms (RKBA); and, as a personal concern, Animal Welfare (AnWe)--aka, "Cats, Guns, and National Security".  As for the "the economy," just tell me how much fuel and ammo will cost, and I'm done with such matters.  These issues combine what I deem as the most important issues facing our society, and one issue I am compelled to consider.
-
These, of course, are the focus of my invitation-only personal blog, "Cats, Guns, and National Security": http://catsgunsandnationalsecurity.blogspot.com  Anyone desiring access to this blog who does not already have it, please submit a request, and it will be given every consideration.  (Bribes helpful, but not required.)
-
-
2. AMERICAN HERITAGE (AmHe): Cultures change over the years, whether for better or worse, but our heritage--our origin and foundation as a nation--remains and should remain.  So, I do little on "culture war" things, since that is so subject to divisions among people otherwise on the same side.  However, I stand for our basic heritage, in opposition to PC.  As a practical matter, I will do this almost entirely in the context of involvement in the Big Three, taking AmHe as a consideration.  Basically this is simply resistance to the agenda of the Left ("Left" as the term is used by legitimate political science, not some Tea Party-type who has no idea about anything, but talks anyway.)  AmHe traits will be treated as guideposts and restricted areas when pursuing those matters--that is, I will resist PC in the context of pursuing them.
-
AmHe is broken down into two basic categories:
  • DEMOGRAPHICS: Foundational demographic (FoDe). No PC discrimination against "traditional ruling classes"--no Affirmative Action, no "special rights" which have disparate impact on those classes, and a recognition that those classes (WASPs and such, with acknowledgement to American Indians) are indeed foundational.  Culture changes will occur, but the foundational demographic should be respected regardless.
  • OWNERSHIP: Private property and enterprise (PrPE). This is not so much about "regulation," but rather about in whose hands the bulk of property and enterprise is held.  There are few areas where "the government" needs to be owners or to exert extreme influence--military production, the postal system, roads and bridges, etc., being among those cases.  Our society should be predominately private in basis, and while cultural and technological changes will impact on how this is manifested, an eye should be given to maintaining that.
-
3. ORGANIZATION FOCUS: While I will as able sacrifice personal concerns for "the cause," I will focus primarily on supporting effective and legitimate organizations doing the job, rather than trying to do an "operation of one."  This will improve overall impact while helping me keep my sanity.
-
Prime organizations by issue, and the exception, are as follows:
-
  • GWOT: ACT! for America (A4A) (with honorable mention to Frank Gaffney's Center for Security Policy).  http://actforamerica.org/
  • RKBA: National Rifle Association (NRA/NRA-ILA), noting their "Friends of NRA" grassroots outfit.  (Don't mention GOA to me.  REPEAT: Don't mention GOA.)  http://www.nraila.org/
  • AnWe: Personal volunteer action at the lowest level, as it is less "political," than it is simply service and aid to our furry friends.
-
-
4. MILITARY SERVICE (ARNG): My service in the Missouri Army National Guard is becoming more time- and labor-intensive.  Between that and the other requirements of such service, it will by necessity--and indeed, all propriety--take on a higher priority in my life--a life I have always tried, though with errors, to dedicate to matters above and beyond myself.  Simply put, this "citizen-soldier" needs to put more on the "soldiering" side.
-
-
5. PERSONAL LIFE (PeLi): As much as I strive, have striven, and know the need for all Americans to reshape their lives from lives of self-focus to lives of focus on their community, the reality of life is finally hitting this old guy.
-
The effect here will be on two points:
  • LIFE SIMPLIFICATION (LiSi): This goes way back in my life, though many influences, but the jist is that I will limit my involvements, be they personal, business, or ideological.  I will also continue my often-violated but ever-more-important precept of keeping physical possessions to a minimum, with storage for things like family heirlooms (I consider such things as belonging not to me, but ather to the family).
  • PERSONNEL CIRCLE (PeCi): Family (which is shrinking) and a few--FEW--personal friends.  All my life my natural mentality has been to think in terms of establishing an esoteric ("closed-circle") life, with the aim of consolidating as much of it as possible and centered on a common aim.  Some do this with religion.  Some do this with business.  And some do this with their nuclear or modestly-extended family.  One's country can be used as this, but using something at that level and with so much of it outside of the "circle" limits its effectiveness.  In my own case, the focal of the circle is still developing.  And though I know it won't be perfect, it especially is necessary for my maintaining my continued functioning--and what is left of my sanity.
-
-
-
The upshot of all of this is that I intend to be personally less "political," while having a bigger impact on the important matters toward which I as a citizen have a responsibility.  That means I will be less obnoxious, but also more focused.  I will still be a jerk, but perhaps a more focused jerk with better-aimed obnoxiousness.  I just don't have the whatever-it-is needed for my old way.

Thank you for reading, and have a real nice day.

What If All the Cats in the World Suddenly Died?

NOTE: The article does not discuss the fact that without cats, the secret feline conspiracy which keeps our society functioning would of course disappear, causing complete meltdown of all civilization.

http://news.yahoo.com/cats-world-suddenly-died-145802016.html

What If All the Cats in the World Suddenly Died?

By Natalie Wolchover | LiveScience.com – Tue, Feb 7, 2012
Perhaps you're a cat lover. Perhaps you abhor the lazy critters. Either way, when you see a cat lounging on an armchair, napping all day but for the occasional stretch or window gaze, "useless" is by no means the last word that comes to mind. Cats, beloved or otherwise, don't radiate the message that they're indispensable, hard-working members of the household, or the world.
But, in fact, they're just playing it cool (as usual). Experts say that if all the world's cats suddenly died, things would quickly go to hell in a handbasket.
Cats, both pets and strays, may fool us into thinking that they depend on our food and trash for survival, but according to Alan Beck, professor of veterinary medicine and director of the Center for the Human-Animal Bond at Purdue University, they're expert predators with adaptablehunting behaviors. "They are a significant predator of small animals, and can survive as almost solitary animals when the prey is scarce, while thriving in high density when the prey is abundant," Beck told Life's Little Mysteries, a sister site to LiveScience.
And that's just why we'd miss them. By killing mice and rats in barns and grain storage areas, cats are vital for keeping those pests in check. In India, Beck said, cats are believed to play a significant role in lessening the amount of grain loss caused by consumption or contamination by rodents. In other words, it may be true that humans feed cats, but without cats, humans would have less food in the first place. [Why Do Cats Bury Their Poop?]
So, how dramatically would the rodent population increase if cats suddenly vanished? It just so happens that several scientific studies have been conducted that paint a vivid picture. A 1997 study in Great Britain found that the average house cat brought home more than 11 dead animals (including mice, birds, frogs and more) in the course of six months. That meant the 9 million cats of Britain were collectively killing close to 200 million wild specimens per year — not including all those they did not offer up to their owners. A study in New Zealand in 1979 found that, when cats were nearly eradicated from a small island, the local rat population quickly quadrupled.
And if the rodent population shot up, this would of course trigger a cascade of other ecological effects. On that same island in New Zealand, for instance, ecologists observed that, as rat numbers increased in the absence of cats, the population of seabirds whose eggs rats preyed upon declined. If the approximately 220 million domestic cats in the world all bit the dust, seabird populations would likely fall worldwide, while the populations of non-cat predators that prey on rats would be expected to increase.
"All species have an impact," Beck said.
And let's not forget the emotional toll that a mass cat death would take on us humans: "In this country, cats are much loved by many. While there are more dog-owning households (38 percent) than cat- owning households (34 percent), there are actually more domestic cats than dogs because cat owners own more of them. Cats as pets have always been appreciated for the contact, relatively low maintenance, and pedomorphic (child-like) face and general morphology."

From ACT! for America: U.S. Congressional Legislation Update

I personally support these bills, including and especially the "See Something, Say Something" bill.  People opposing it need to remember that the same supposed "freedom" they are upholding by opposing such things can and will also be used by those endeavoring to destroy their freedom.

*** LEGISLATIVE ALERT *** UPDATE ON ACT! FOR AMERICA'S
LIST OF HIGH PRIORITY LEGISLATION
IN THE 112TH CONGRESS
by Lisa Piraneo, Director of Government Relations

Dear Lee,

The second half of the 112th Congress has just begun and I thought it would be a good time to update everyone on the status of legislation on ACT! for America's "High Priority List." These are legislative proposals that have been introduced in the 112th Congress that we feel are important to our national security interests and which we have publicly endorsed and are actively supporting via the national office and our grassroots base.

Please go to the Contact Congress page on our website to learn more about each of these bills and to send a pre-written e-mail of support to your Members of Congress. It couldn't be easier and it's so very important. Each of you plays an important role in seeing these critical proposals move through the legislative process successfully. As you'll see, many are "stuck in committee." These proposals will move further through the legislative process only if your federal legislators hear from you.

Legislation on ACT! for America's High Priority List for the 112th Congress

  1. The "Birthright Citizenship Protection Act of 2011"
House Sponsor: Rep. Steve King, R-IA; Senate Sponsor Sen. David Vitter, R-LA

    STATUS:
House: H.R. 140 - Introduced: 1/5/2011 and referred to the House Judiciary Committee; 1/24/11 further referred to its Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement, where it is awaiting further action.
Senate: S. 723 - Introduced: 4/5/2011, and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee where it is awaiting further action.

  2. The "First Responders Fighting Terrorism Protection Act of 2011"
House Sponsor: Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC)

    STATUS:
House: H.R. 504 - Introduced 1/26/2011, and referred to House Judiciary Committee; 2/14/2011 further referred to its Subcommittee on the Constitution where it is awaiting further action.

  3. The "See Something, Say Something Act of 2011"
House Sponsor: Rep. Peter King (R-NY); Senate Sponsor: Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)

    STATUS:
House: H.R. 495 - Introduced 1/26/2011 and referred to the House Judiciary Committee; 2/28/2011 further referred to its Subcommittee on the Constitution. The legislation was included in the DHS Authorization bill that passed out of the House Homeland Security Committee in November, 2011. The legislation is expected to come before the full House of Representatives for debate and a vote by this spring.
Senate: S. 505 - Introduced 3/8/2011 and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary where it is awaiting further action.

  4. The "Secure High-voltage Infrastructure for Electricity from Lethal Damage (SHIELD) Act"
House Sponsor: Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ)

    STATUS:
House: H.R. 668 - Introduced 2/11/2011 and referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and further to its Subcommittee on Energy and Power. The legislation was also referred to the House Budget Committee. It is awaiting further action by both Committees.

  5. The "Team B Act"
House Sponsor: Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA)

    STATUS:
House: H.R. 1502 - Introduced 4/12/2011 and referred to House Intelligence Committee. A modified version of the Team B Act was included in the Fiscal Year 2012 Intelligence Authorization bill and signed into law on 1/3/2011. It authorizes a one-year competitive analysis exercise in the DNI's office. Though it's short of what Rep. Wolf wants, he feels that it's a good first start, as it provides a competitive analysis on the issue of radicalization.

  6. The "Open Fuel Standard Act of 2011"
House Sponsor: Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL); Senate Sponsor: Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA)

    STATUS:

They then voted (17-11) that it be sent to the full House of Representatives for further discussion and a vote. It is awaiting further action by the full House of Representatives.

(Report # 112-274); The bill has been placed on the House Union Calendar (where bills wait for the Speaker to schedule discussion and a vote by the full House) and is expected to come before the full House sometime in 2012.

  9. The "National Guard Border Enforcement Act"

(Note: As this bill passed in the House late last year, there is no active letter writing campaign on our Contact Congress page at this time.)

  11. The "9/11 Commission Review Act"
House Sponsor: Rep. Peter King (R-NY)

Sharia law and the
first amendment

Dear Lee,

Check out the picture below, of a billboard seen by one of our members in the Kansas City area:

The billboard is sponsored by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a Muslim Brotherhood connected organization. Note the strategy—that opposition to sharia law is supposedly an infringement on the first amendment protection of religious freedom.

This is, of course, disingenuous. Is ICNA arguing that the following provisions of sharia law be protected by the first amendment?

  • A Muslim man beating his wife for disobedience.
  • Punishment, up to capital punishment, of "apostates"—those who leave Islam.
  • Polygamy. (In 1879, the Supreme Court ruled that Mormon polygamy was not protected under the first amendment.)
  • Jihad.
  • Suppression of criticism of Islam or Muhammad. (This is particularly obnoxious, since the first amendment also protects freedom of speech.)
  • Punishment for the practice of homosexuality.
We highly doubt anyone who calls ICNA will be told these facts about sharia law!

ACT! for America does not argue that Muslims do not have a first amendment right to practice the peaceful, spiritual tenets of their faith. What we oppose is the imposition of a supremacist political ideology and its legal code (sharia) where its provisions and doctrines threaten the security, freedom, and the Constitution of our nation.

ICNA is wrapping sharia in the first amendment in the hope that Americans won't look closely at what sharia really includes. Every time someone signs up for our email alerts, makes a donation, attends one of our Citizens in Action conferences, or starts or joins a local chapter, we are that much stronger and effective in pushing back against this deception.

Can you do something to help us today? And if you come across something like this billboard that you think we should be aware of, please email us at info@actforamerica.org.

Together, we will prevail.

Dear Lee,

The Investors Business Daily editorial below highlights a growing problem on our college campuses.

Who's Vetting Muslim Chaplains On College Campuses?

http://news.investors.com/Article/598759/201201241804/college-muslim-chaplains-al-qaida-hamas-background-checks.htm

Homeland Security: To please Muslim-rights groups, more and more colleges are hiring Muslim chaplains, only to watch them radicalize students. Campuses need tougher background checks.

Alarmingly, some chaplains have actively supported al-Qaida and called for violent jihad against "kaffirs," or infidels. And yet they still have access to students, and remain on the university payroll.

Take Imam Abdullah Faaruuq, Muslim chaplain at Northeastern University in Boston. He has urged Muslims to pick up the "gun and sword" on behalf of recently imprisoned al-Qaida terrorists.

Last month, Faaruuq held a fundraiser for Aafia Siddiqui, a one-time MIT student also known as "Lady al-Qaida," who's serving an 86-year prison sentence for opening fire on U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

Siddiqui, a senior al-Qaida operative based in Pakistan, was captured with notes about a "mass casualty attack" in the U.S., along with a list of New York landmarks.

"What a brave woman she continues to be, and how much her bravery and her faith and her belief warrants our support at this time," said Faaruuq, as he encouraged Massachusetts Muslims to help raise $30,000 for her appeal.

"She's only guilty of defending herself," he said. In fact, Siddiqui yelled "Death to America" as she fired on soldiers. A federal judge called her actions premeditated.

While ignoring such evidence, the Northeastern chaplain condemned American soldiers as "kaffirs" and exhorted Muslims to "cut through" them with machetes.

"Go out and do your job," he said, referring to jihad.

No wonder Islamic extremism has spread at Northeastern.

Then there's Khalid Griggs, assistant chaplain at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Upon his hiring, Wake Forest's president praised him as a "well-respected individual."

Yes, well-respected among the radical Muslim Brotherhood.

Griggs has served as a leader of the Islamic Circle of North America, or ICNA, cited in the Muslim Brotherhood's recently declassified founding archives as one of its front groups. He is also a senior official in the Muslim Alliance of North America. MANA was co-founded by radical Muslim cleric Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

"It is difficult to understand how the president of such a respected American university could have remained so oblivious to the serious implications of allowing an individual like Griggs with openly publicized links to the Muslim Brotherhood access to Wake Forest students," said terror expert Clare Lopez.

ICNA is an offshoot of the Muslim Students Association, another Brotherhood front. MSA has grown to one of the nation's largest college groups with more than 150 campus chapters.

MSA chapters from New York to California have extolled suicide bombers and other terrorists as "martyrs" and the "only people who truly fear Allah."

And they are a big reason why, according to a recent Pew Research poll, one in four college-age Muslims in America support suicide bombings.

MSA also organizes anti-Israel student rallies, and hectors college administrators into Islamizing campus facilities. MSA and Muslim chaplains work in lockstep.

Clearly, regents and administrators are clueless about this dangerous threat. Unless they put in place better vetting systems, radical Islamists will be able to infiltrate college campuses and indoctrinate impressionable students who graduate to become jihadists instead of productive members of society.
