An off-the-top-of-my-head trouncing of libertarianism (by a Reactionary fascist)

In the video below, LTC Allen West makes a point that "different rules" apply to Left and Right.  This is why "freedom" fails--there is no control to prevent this, and the people are too stupid to clearly see it and too selfish to even care.  Yet somehow, libertarians believe that MORE freedom ("liberty") is the answer.  If they are sincere (though few are), they are blind to the continuing state of human nature and oblivious to the changes in the situation brought by technology since our Founders' generation.  We simply cannot afford the freedom they want.

Now, that's about the SINCERE libertarians.  Most libertarians are what I would term, "agendists".  That is, they are libertarian--even if in name only--solely to gain a particular goal.  One Paultard I know calls himself a "libertarian nationalist."  This is, of course, a contradiction, since libertarians put the individual above any larger entity (the "state" being simply the organized expression of a nation or national grouping).  (This goes to why one cannot be both a libertarian and a patriot.)  In truth, he is a borderline fascist who only says he's libertarian because his hero Ron Paul is a libertarian.

Others--and the aforementioned Paultard laps a bit into this group--have specific policy issues about which they are so upset at the status quo that they will contribute to destroying the country in order to resolve them.  The big one now is Affirmative Action/"civil rights."  These people believe that it's necessary to remove government from everything in order to prevent them from acting against the White majority.  With no "government" involvement, there's no "Action."   This is part of that aforementioned Paultard's thinking.

Now, these types will ignorantly--and often deceptively--blur the definition of their term, "government."  In one sentence or clause, it will mean any level of government, and in the next refer to the "federal" government.  This comes from a lack of sophisticated thinking and higher, liberal arts education.  They are so self-absorbed in their own little corner that they don't realize that philosophical principles aren't tied to whether a country is federal, unitary, or a confederation.  Morally speaking, government is government, and the roles and functions and statuses of different levels are simply matters of politics and culture.

However, one matter that unites all libertarians (except, ironically, the classic, party-member, capital-L "Libertarians"--or as I simply call them: "druggies") is a belief in some sort of conspiracy theory.  ALL libertarians (noting the exception) believe that hidden forces actually control the country, and that our republic or democracy is a facade.  Libertarians have to believe these theories because they have to explain why, with the increasing levels of democracy, people keep voting in people like Obama and Pelosi.  Oh, it can't be that conservatives are lazy--that is, individualists like the libertarians--while liberals are actually committed to their agenda.  No!  It has to be something behind the scenes keeping the people's voice silent.  If they admit that the real problem is indeed with "the People," the basis and justification for libertarianism completely falls.

As for their conspiracy theories themselves, ultimately they are the "ZOG" theory.  Though different libertarians may parse it differently, it boils down to the same people and the same structure.  Libertarians, then, believe that by destroying the power of the government (and hence, the country), they will destroy the power of ZOG.  This is why libertarians love to see American military defeats and foreign policy failures.  To them, it's not "America" which is being defeated and run down, it's ZOG.

A funny result of this involved the aforementioned Paultard.  When America killed bin Laden and Al-Wacky, he was not happy.  He thought the bin Laden hit should have been done covertly, rather than us taking credit.  He SAID his thinking was that if we had not announced responsibility, we could have exploited intelligence gathered from the hit for months.  Indeed, some idiots have said that.  However, that is ridiculous.  Rest assured, any hit taking out bin Laden would have been known and spread around the globe literally in minutes, and the intel no more useful than it was the way we did do it.  My friend is forgetting about modern technology's impact.

On Al-Wacky, he sent me an email saying in one line (paraphrasing), "The government can't go around murdering its own citizens," and in literally the very next line, "I have no problem with hitting [Al-Wacky]."  I pointed out the contradiction, and his response was that "sometimes you have to do the wrong thing" (which I do not believe--save the "Basic Training" exception allowing lying, cheating, and stealing to survive).  His point was that the government should do such things "covertly."

The upshot of his idea, then, is that a Ron Paul administration would publicly say we're "non-interventionist" and won't interfere with worldwide Jihad, so they will leave us alone, when in fact, his administration is actually running far more covert operations than ever imagined.  This makes the libertarian foreign policy a facade (much like they believe the current system is) for extreme, secret actions.

Two problems arise from this: 1. I don't believe Ron Paul would take the route this Paultard and others try to suggest he would; and 2. It would fail miserably.  To explain 2: Covert operations require conventional infrastructure.  We would need bases in the area, and under a libertarian approach we would alienate every ally and withdraw from every overseas base.  Also, we would need conventional forces, both to facilitate the action and to be strong enough to enable us to say, if discovered, "Yeah, we did it.  Whatcha gonna do about it?"  Libertarians, of course, would decimate our conventional forces faster than Obama in his wildest dreams.

As stated above, and I pointed this out to the Paultard, covert operations sometimes get exposed.  Under libertarianism (if it's sincere), the liberal media would be free to do so.  Indeed, Ron Paul called Bradley Manning a "hero" who should receive legal protection.  This means that all these operations WOULD be exposed, and the whole administration and "the war effort" would be discredited.

When I mentioned this to the Paultard, he honestly seemed happy with that.  This goes to the lack of sophisticated thinking on the part of "conservatives".  He was so accustomed to LIKING American failures because it actually hurt ZOG that he forgot that in the scenario discussed, it was HIS OWN PEOPLE in charge, not ZOG.  Self-defeating, and he doesn't even realize it.

Now, of course, for many "libertarians," the whole thing is a ruse.  Few who call themselves that actually are.  In fact, most are nearly as "fascist" as I am.  They simply want to use a libertarian approach to gain their goals.  They actually would repress the very liberties they claim to champion.  For instance, they would have to put strong "covert" controls on the press to keep their covert operations secret.  Individual speech would have to be controlled, lest someone propose a popular law like, say, speed limits around schools and create a slippery-slope assault on libertarian philosophy.  But at the same time, covert efforts would be needed to keep people from driving so fast in those areas.  The list of such actions go on and on, but the upshot is that while people like me are forthright and say, "Let's put in speed limits.  Let's punish sedition.  Let's indoctrinate people in patriotism," these people--if they are to be taken seriously--would do such things illegally and covertly (with a strange twist on the patriotism part).  People would be in far MORE fear, even as they are told they live in freedom.  It would be very much like those old Communist countries with names like "People's Democratic Republic of..." whatever--the more they have to insist they are free, the less free they actually are.

On another plane, the whole approach of libertarianism is patently immoral in that it denies the role given it by the Christian God to enforce righteousness as best it can (see Romans 13, et al), and in fact institutes in culture a complete disregard for the concept of right and wrong.  Not only does this break down national identity, the morality of future generations, it also harms the individual who seeks to do righteousness.  Such things as "peer pressure" exert much influence over anybody (cf. I Corinthians 15:33-34).  Libertarians would eliminate structural pressure to do what is right (e.g., eliminating drug and speed laws) and make the work of moral people like me all the more difficult.  Thus, it actually constitutes a violation of the Christian provision of caring for one's brother (note I'm not talking about anything financial, yet that is EXACTLY where you're mind went).  And for the irony of it all, libertarians will acknowledge that their stated system requires that vast bulk of people to do the right thing, even as they make that harder and harder for the few people in society who actually do that.  So, though the libertarian might say that the inability of someone to resist peer pressure is a problem with an individual, it's a problem that the traditional God of our people lays a responsibility for on them, and which impacts on their whole agenda.  (This goes to why one cannot be both a libertarian and a Christian.)

All of this, of course, leads to the question of just how genuinely not-so-agendist libertarians (though there are few of these) believe their rubbish.  For some, these ideas are only intended as a disingenuous counter to liberal/Left ideas.  They are not to be taken seriously.  While I freely acknowledge that "the People" are as a whole idiots and need to be led, I do not favor the wholesale deception that is the libertarian platform.  This is because ultimately the lies are exposed, the fallacies debunked, and the whole of the conservative/Right discredited.  Hence it fails in the end, with the result being the destruction of many good elements of our public life and the handing of political victory to the very movement it seeks to combat.

To destroy the country to end Affirmative Action is like burning down ones house to get rid of bad furniture. To use disingenuous libertarian arguments as a political foil against liberalism only serves to aid the liberals by tearing down the formal underpinnings of social tradition and dividing the conservative/Right.  To destroy public standards and structure in the name of "individual liberty" is so patently immoral as to virtually warrant the rebellion some libertarian hope occurs.  (Yes, people will rise up and demand "MORE GOVERNMENT!")

Libertarianism is literally the worst way to structure a society.  Yes, even worse than Communism, because Communism in its methodology at least acknowledges the need to change human nature.  Libertarianism demands immediate change to a system completely vulnerable to human nature (unless, of course, it's the disingenuous kind, which only proves my point.)

So, to the libertarians out there, instead of trying destroy the country in order to save it, try actually engaging the issues.  Try countering PC by supporting one another, even if it costs you something as an individual.  Try putting principles ahead of personal profit.  Try sacrificing.  In other words, stop being the self-focused conservative types and start being self-sacrificing reactionaries.  Stop blaming some conspiracy, and start blaming the idiot people around us, and then work to minimize their negative impact.  And please, stop with the lies and disingenuousness.  If you want to end Affirmative Action, say it's because you're White and disapprove of being discriminated against in the country which your people founded and in which has graciously allowed other races to live.  And a hundred other things like that.  In short, repent of your own sin of selfishness, then lead others to do so, then lead to country back to righteousness.  Accept it will take time, and that your grandchildren's children might still be working to restore it.  That is the reality.  It took centuries to get this bad, and it will take awhile to get things back.  Don't be so selfish.

That's all!

The Abedin family

Dear Lee,

Two weeks ago, over 20,000 of you sent email letters to the U.S. House and Senate in support of the five Members of Congress who had the courage to raise questions about Muslim Brotherhood influence in our government.

Thank you.

A lot of heat was directed at these Members of Congress, and particularly Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, because of one letter's reference to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Since then, a great deal of information has emerged about Abedin and her family.

The Abedin Family's Pro-Jihadist Journal

Posted By Andrew Bostom On August 6, 2012

(Adapted from this essay [1])

Steadily burgeoning [2] evidence [3] indicates that one of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's closest aides, Huma Abedin, despite Ms. Clinton's protestation [4], was inadequately vetted for either family, or personal ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Diligent, open [5] source [2] investigation [3] has already uncovered and documented numerous alarming connections. One can reasonably infer that a serious, formal Congressional investigation of the overall extent of Muslim Brotherhood influence operations—as requested [6] by Representatives Bachmann, Gohmert, Franks, Westmoreland, and Rooney—might yield even more disturbing findings.

Pending these sorely needed Congressional inquiries—replete with their probing investigative tools—much can still be gleaned from the public record. For example, over the past 33 years, Huma Abedin's family has been responsible for the editorial production of the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs [7] (IMMA)'s academic journal [8], known as Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs. Journal, from 1979-1995, and Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs [JMMA], from 1996. till now, starting with family patriarch Syed Z. Abedin's, and Huma's mother, Saleha Abedin [2]'s, founding [9] involvement [10] since 1979, and subsequently joined by Huma's brother Hassan Abedin (1996 [11] to present [12]), Huma herself (1996 [11] to 2008 [13]), and Huma's sister, Heba (married name Khalid, or Khaled [14]; 2002 [15] to present [12]).

Syed Abedin, in the inaugural edition of the IMMA journal, gives an effusive tribute [16] to one of his IMMA co-founders, Dr. Abdullah Omar Nasseef, Chairman [17] of the IMMA. During his concurrent tenure as Secretary-General of the Muslim World League—a combined [18] Saudi Wahhabi, Muslim Brotherhood-dominated organization—in July, 1988, Naseef also created the Rabita Trust [19], and became its chairman. On October 12, 2001, then President George W. Bush's Executive Order named Rabita Trust [20] as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity, and the US Treasury Department froze its assets, while Naseef was still serving as the Trust's chairman. Nasseef remained on the IMMA journal Editorial Board through 2003 [21], overlapping Huma Abedin's tenure for 7-years (i.e., 1996-2003).

The current (April/May 2012) issue of the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs journal (JMMA) features two essays, introduced with lavish praise by Editor Saleha Abedin [22], which champion, unabashedly:

  • The global hegemonic aspirations of major 20th century Muslim Brotherhood jihadist ideologues, such as the eminent Muslim Brotherhood theoretician, Sayyid Qutb (d. 1966), and Abul Hasan Nadwi (d. 1999)

  • The more expansive application of Sharia within Muslim minority communities residing in the West, with the goal of replacing these non-Muslim governing systems, as advocated by contemporary Muslim Brotherhood jihadist ideologues, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, and Tahir Jabir al-Alwani
One of these JMMA essays repeats [23], approvingly, Qutb's pejorative characterization of the West as a "disastrous combination of avid materialism, and egoistic individualism." Abul Hasan Nadwi, was a founding member of the Muslim World League, a member of the Organization of Islamic Conference (now Cooperation), a member of the World Supreme Council of Mosques, and a member of the Fiqh Council of Rabita. In a triumphal 1951 manifesto extolling Islamic supremacism, Nadwi had proclaimed [24] "Behold the world of man looking with rapture at the world of Islam as its savior, and behold the world of Islam fixing its gaze on the Arab world as its secular and spiritual leader. Will the world of Islam realize the hope of the world of men? And will the Arab world realize the hope of the Muslim world?" Citing Nadwi with admiration, the same JMMA article opines [23], "[T]he confrontation has taken the shape of an 'Islamic project' in the Muslim world against Western modernity…. The war that has been declared against Western modernity now seeks a new modernity…unlike Western modernity."

Another featured essay [25] from the current issue [26] of the JMMA is a fitting complement to the journal's endorsement [23] of the global Islamic supremacist agenda. This essay endorses [25] the so-called "innovative" application of the "Jurisprudence of Muslim Minorities," living, for example, in the West, whose stated purpose is, "enforcement of shari'ah on the Muslim communities." However, by the essay's own expressed standard [25]: "The theory of the Jurisprudence of Muslim Minorities is most easily clarified by shedding light on its founders."

The two founders of this legal doctrine, as the essay notes [25], are Yusuf al-Qaradawi of Qatar, and Taha Jabir al-Alwani of Virginia, USA.

Qaradawi has publicly advocated [27]:

  • The re-creation of a formal transnational United Islamic State (Islamic Caliphate)
  • The jihad conquests of Europe, and the Americas
  • Universal application of the Sharia, including Islamic blasphemy law, and the hadd punishments (for example, notably, executing so-called "apostates" from Islam)
Al-Alwani, writing as president of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), a think tank created [28] by the Muslim Brotherhood in the early 1980s, stated, regarding a (then) new English translation of the classic Shafiite manual of Islamic jurisprudence Reliance of the Traveller [29], "from a purely academic point of view, this translation is superior to anything produced by orientalists in the way of translations of major Islamic works." Notwithstanding al-Alwani's glowing tribute, Reliance of the Traveller [29] sanctions open-ended jihadism to subjugate the world to a totalitarian Islamic Caliphate; rejection of bedrock Western liberties—including freedom of conscience and speech—enforced by imprisonment, beating, or death; discriminatory relegation of non-Muslims to outcast, vulnerable pariahs, and even Muslim women to subservient chattel (who must be segregated and undergo female genital mutilation); and barbaric punishments which violate human dignity, such as amputation for theft, stoning for adultery, and lashing for alcohol consumption. Moreover,

  • Al-Alwani wished [30] Islamized Spain had conquered America and spread Islam in our hemisphere, not Christianity. He stated, "Perhaps some of them [Muslims from Spain] would have been the ones who discovered America, not someone else, and America could have possibly been today among the lands of the Muslims"
  • Al-Alwani was named [31] as an unindicted co-conspirator in the case against Sami Al-Arian who pled guilty to conspiracy to aid the terrorist organization, Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
  • al-Alwani published an essay online, discovered (and translated [32] from Arabic to English) in July 2011, entitled "The Great Haughtiness", which promoted conspiratorial Islamic Jew-hatred replete with Koranic references, conjoined to modern "Zionist conspiracies"
The Abedin family "academic" journal is a thinly veiled mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood's Sharia-supremacist agenda. One can now add this conclusive, public record evidence to a host of other bona fide justifications for the Congressional inquiry demanded by Representative Bachmann, and her four intrepid colleagues.

Dear Lee,

The CNN report below is no shock to us. HSBC is a leader in promoting sharia-compliant financial instruments. Such instruments, if truly sharia-compliant, require a percentage of their profits to be given as zakat to Muslim charities. Given how many Muslim charities in the past ten years have been linked to terrorism-financing, it is a virtual certainty that some portion of those zakat funds are ending up in the hands of terrorists.

HSBC lax in preventing money laundering by cartels, terrorists

HSBC executives testified at a hearing on Capitol Hill Tuesday.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Global banking giant HSBC failed to prevent billions of dollars worth of money transfers that Senate investigators believe were linked to drug cartels and terrorist groups, according to a report released Monday.

The Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said London-based HSBC (HBC) failed to review thousands of suspicious transactions and properly vet clients over the past decade.

Among other issues, the report notes that in 2007 and 2008, HSBC's Mexico unit shipped $7 billion in cash to the bank's U.S. affiliate, a volume of shipments that law enforcement officials said could reach that size "only if they included illegal drug proceeds."

HSBC Mexico had a number of high-profile clients linked to drug trafficking, the report says, as well as "a huge backlog of accounts marked for closure due to suspicious activity, but whose closures were delayed."

The report also found that HSBC worked extensively with Saudi Arabia's Al Rajhi Bank, some owners of which have been linked to terrorism financing, according to a CIA report quoted by the subcommittee. Some evidence suggests Al Rajhi's "key founder" was "an early financial benefactor of al Qaeda," the report says.

HSBC's U.S. affiliate supplied Al Rajhi with nearly $1 billion worth of U.S. banknotes up to 2010, and also worked with two banks in Bangladesh that some evidence links to terrorism financing as well.

"From an oversight perspective, the failure of accountability here is dramatic," said Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the subcommittee.

The Department of Justice is also investigating HSBC over the issue. A DOJ spokeswoman declined to comment, citing the ongoing probe.

Wall Street's latest sucker: Your hometown

The report also said HSBC's U.S. affiliate handled nearly 25,000 transactions involving Iran between 2001 and 2007, despite U.S. sanctions against the country. Other HSBC affiliates making transfers to the U.S. frequently stripped information from the transactions that linked them to Iran in order to evade scrutiny.

Some HSBC executives in the U.S. were aware of this practice as far back as 2001, the report says. An outside review commissioned by HSBC found nearly $20 billion worth of transactions between 2001 and 2007 that may have been subject to U.S. sanctions.

The report came ahead of a hearing by the Senate subcommittee Tuesday that featured testimony from HSBC executives and government officials from the Treasury Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Regulators also came in for criticism in the report -- in particular, the OCC, HSBC's primary overseer. The subcommittee said the OCC allowed HSBC's anti-money laundering deficiencies "to fester for years" before finally taking action in 2010, requiring the bank to improve its internal controls.

"Its record of enforcement at HSBC resembles a lapdog rather than the watchdog that we sorely need," Sen. Tom Coburn, the subcommittee's ranking member, said Tuesday.

HSBC said in a statement ahead of the hearing that it "takes compliance with the law, wherever it operates, very seriously."

"We will acknowledge that, in the past, we have sometimes failed to meet the standards that regulators and customers expect," HSBC said. "We believe that this case history will provide important lessons for the whole industry in seeking to prevent illicit actors entering the global financial system."

The bank added that it has beefed up its compliance efforts over the past year, increasing its due diligence requirements for affiliates and devoting more resources to the issue. Speaking at the hearing, HSBC compliance head David Bagley said he planned to step down as part of the reform process, although he will remain at the firm in a different capacity.

The Senate subcommittee noted that HSBC was "fully cooperative" with the investigation, providing documents from around the world beyond what was legally required.

Former CIA spy: Iran has sleeper cells in the U.S.

Dear Lee,

Brigitte Gabriel, president of ACT! for America, has been warning about this for years—Iran has terrorist sleeper cells in the U.S. that are working with Mexican drug cartels.

Now, a former CIA spy confirms what Ms. Gabriel has been saying. See the chilling details in the Los Angeles Times story below (highlights added).

Former CIA spy advocates overthrow of Iranian regime

Reza Kahlili, living in the shadows with a fake name and disguise, worked from inside the Revolutionary Guard. He warns of terrorist sleeper cells in the U.S. and a plot to destroy Israel.

Los Angeles Times

ARLINGTON, Va. — His disguise consists of a blue surgeon's mask, sunglasses and a baseball cap that reads "Free Iran." A small modulator distorts his voice. He uses a pseudonym, Reza Kahlili.

He lives in fear, he says, because his years as a paid spy for the CIA inside Iran have made him an assassination target of Iran's government. He worries about his wife and children, who live with him in California.

At the same time, implausibly, he has become one of the most influential and outspoken voices in the U.S. advocating the overthrow of the Iranian government.

For the last two years, Kahlili has gone semipublic with a memoir, a blog, op-ed pieces and invitation-only speeches at think tanks. He warns that Iran operates terrorist sleeper cells inside the United States and is determined to build nuclear weapons to destroy Israel. The U.S. should respond, he argues, by supporting the opposition inside Iran.

He travels furtively between appearances, working as a Pentagon consultant and as a member of a domestic security task force.

"There's probably nobody better on our side in explaining the mind-set of those in power in Iran," said Peter Vincent Pry, a former CIA military analyst who directs the Task Force on National and Homeland Security. "He understands the ideological sources of Iran's nuclear program."

U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said Kahlili has convinced him of the importance of supporting the opposition and hardening sanctions against Iran.

"I thought I knew a lot about Iran until meeting with him," King said on a New York political radio program in January. At the time, Kahlili was a guest and King was a guest-host, but the two had previously met in the congressman's office.

"If you're going to take this issue seriously, the one person you have to consult with and read his writings is Reza Kahlili," King said.

In a quiet hotel lounge in Arlington, Kahlili is not wearing his disguise or using his voice modulator for a meeting with a reporter.

"You'd be shocked by how easily agents from the Revolutionary Guard come and go inside the United States every day," Kahlili says in a near-whisper, bent over a table in a dark corner.

A soft-spoken man in his mid-50s, Kahlili is wearing jeans, a sports shirt and a black coat. He's of average height and weight, with a smattering of facial hair.

He made certain he wasn't followed, he says, and performed a quick security check of the hotel.

"They'd kill me if they could find me," he says of Iranian agents.

Mark Zaid, a national security lawyer in Washington, D.C., said he had confirmed that Kahlili was a longtime operative of a U.S. intelligence agency, adding: "He has insights on Iran most people in the U.S. intelligence community don't have."

For covert operatives, clearance agreements with the CIA often prohibit public acknowledgment of the agreement itself or of the CIA. A CIA spokesman, Todd D. Ebitz, said the agency had no comment on Kahlili.

Brian Weidner, program coordinator for Iran instruction at the Joint Counterintelligence Training Academy, confirmed that Kahlili is a paid lecturer for the Pentagon agency. Other instructors are videotaped, Kahlili says, but his lectures are audio-only to protect his identity.

Kahlili says he lived a double life until the mid-1990s, passing along secrets to the CIA and recruiting Revolutionary Guards for the agency. In a sense, he resumed his double identity after publishing his 2010 memoir; he was now a former covert agent who had thrust himself into the public eye.

He rarely leaves home — "my bunker," he jokes — and shuns social situations.

For years, his mother in Iran berated him for working for a regime she despised; she died never knowing about his CIA spy work, he says. His children know nothing of his background. His Iranian wife was unaware of his spying for years, and was hurt, angry and terrified when he finally told her.

"It took a long time for that to heal, and for her to understand why I did it," Kahlili says. Though his wife is pleased that he has publicized Iran's human rights abuses, he says, she has begged him to go back into hiding.

He is pained by regrets. "I put my family in danger without giving it much thought," he says. "They didn't know what I'd done, but they were in as much danger as I was."

The spy story Kahlili tells in his book, and in several interviews with The Times, features coded messages, disinformation, clandestine meetings and international intrigue.

After graduating from USC, Kahlili returned to Iran just before the 1979 revolution toppled the Shah. A childhood friend recruited him into the Revolutionary Guard, where he gained an insider's access to the new Islamic government — and where he was to turn against the regime.

The Guard executed teenage girls for associating with opposition groups, but first raped them to deny them the heavenly paradise guaranteed to virgins. One of Kahlili's best friends and the man's two siblings were tortured and executed.

Eventually, he persuaded his superiors to let him fly to Los Angeles, telling them that his aunt there was ill. He looked up the FBI in the phone book and persuaded two agents to meet with him. They sent him to a CIA handler in London. He passed polygraph exams and returned to Iran as Wally, a secret agent who communicated via coded letters and radio messages.

Kahlili says Iranian terrorist cells inside the U.S. have weapons, explosives, money and safe houses; they use contacts with Mexican and Latin American drug cartels to smuggle explosives and weapons into the U.S.

"They have very detailed information about sensitive sites such as bridges, railroads, airports, military bases, power plants, nuclear sites, water plants, railway stations," he says.

If the U.S. or Israel attacked Iran, he says, sleeper cells inside the U.S. would launch suicide bombings and sabotage. Iran would attack Israel, and U.S. bases in Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf, he warns.

Kahlili says Iran has intelligence agents inside American universities, Islamic cultural centers and charitable institutions, posing as academics, policy experts and officers of nonprofits. They try to influence policymakers to encourage negotiations in order to give Iran time to develop nuclear weapons.

Kahlili says the Iranian leadership is motivated by Mahdism, the messianic belief that the 12th imam of Shiism, the Mahdi, will one day reappear to establish universal Islam. The trigger is the destruction of Israel.

Sanctions against Iran won't work, Kahlili argues. "It's not about the economy. It's about ideology," he says.

Inside the hotel lounge, Kahlili appears worn and weary. He glances around. He says Iranian agents are trying to find him and his family.

"I have a lot of anxiety — I feel a lot of pressure," he says. "I feel sick sometimes and I can't sleep."

There is only so much he can do to protect his family, he says. "If [Iran] found out about me, we'd be sitting ducks," he said.

He smiles wanly. "Sometimes I think I should stop," he says. "I think I must be crazy."

But in the same breath, he also says the American public must be told about what is happening in Iran and what could happen in the United States. Iran's regime must fall, he says.

And then he is gone, out the busy hotel lobby and into the night, a man with an assumed name living a life on the margins, running to and from his past.
