The police did well here.

First, note how the one protester seems to think--just like the Democrats in the sit-in in Congress awhile back--that the media is simply part of their movement. And second, the police kinda failed this guy here. Which leads to my third point, which is that people on "our" side should never engage in these sorts of solo actions. Rather, go in in tight groups, practiced in group tactics, and with cover--both cameras and security. I've done street activism, and I know the tricks.
