Not totally on topic: Why “TV” isn’t what we remember.
Part of television 40 or 50 years ago was having to pick between alternatives. Not just different shows, but whether we were going to watch the show or do something else. VCR’s allowed some time shifting, but there was still a certain coordination needed. The more options we’ve gotten, the less special everything is become. I knew a young lady who due to circumstances basically just sat around her house all day, watching movies on the various platforms. She didn’t really have to be selective. She would see it and click it. Even allowing for the fact that most of us don’t have the time she did, it still seems like we can get everything we want. And like Larry the Cable Guy said in Witless Protection, when you can have everything, nothing means anything. On the other hand, we’ve also become more selective. Whereas back in the days when we only had three channels, we would easily accept a lesser of three evils. I would watch things back then that today I would just scroll right past. “TV”...
