I give mine a minute at least if I'm running an errand. If going to work, it's ALWAYS at least five--usually ten--minutes before leaving. We have a ritual: Turn off lights (there's still enough to see), turn on radio so she'll have noise while I'm gone, jingle keys as a signal I'm leaving, and say a prayer for her peace and safety. And mine: "God, please get me back home safely for her sake."
