THE DAILY FUDD: E56: "VIDEO: Star Wars Jedi fuddery goes too far: 'Why Jedi Didn't Use Blasters'"

Now, a few counterthoughts to keep such fuddery in its place:
1. (Obi-wan "Ben" Kenobi, speaking of the light saber) "An elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

Ah. Like a 7.62mm "battle(ish) rifle" over a 5.56mm "assault(ive) rifle."

===

2. (3:02 point) "[T]he Jedi considered the lightsaber as a symbol for their order."

Ah, like a .45 as a symbol for MAGA-hatter Patriots.

===

A good short-barreled scattergun or such has a similar effect on common hoodlums.

The moral of the story--or storal of the mory, if you prefer:

1. Choose what is best for the mission from among what can be reasonably kept. (2A civilian Militia may do better with 7.62mm "battle rifles"; time may come with 5.56mm is not an option.) 2. Symbolism is fine, so long as it can still do the job. (.45 can serve as fine sidearm, with particular use in civil situations.) 3. In real life, "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." (Firepower intimidates; we don't have the Force.)
