THE DAILY FUDD: E160: "VERY impartial video: 'What Actually Defines an Assault Rifle, and Who Invented Them?.'"

This family of YouTube channels presents some extremely well-done and generally balanced videos. They aren't perfect, of course. But then, I don't operate them.

Excerpt from the YouTube transcript of this video:

you might have noticed few of those
18:38
features in any way affect the actual
18:40
mechanical operation or deadliness of a
18:43
firearm and instead merely serve to make
18:45
it look tactical or scary compared to
18:47
more traditional firearms used for
18:49
hunting and other sporting purposes
18:51
unsurprisingly this purely cosmetic
18:53
definition has led to a variety of
18:55
nonsensical contradictions in the
18:56
application of gun control laws for
18:58
example the ruger mini 14 a scaled down
19:01
version of the m14 chambered for the
19:03
5.56 by 45 millimeter cartridge has
19:06
rarely been targeted by assault weapons
19:08
bands despite firing the same cartridge
19:10
and having roughly the same capabilities
19:12
as the ar-15 the only major difference
19:14
between the ar-15 and the mini 14 is
19:17
that the latter is typically sold with a
19:19
traditional wooden stock making it look
19:21
less intimidating none of this of course
19:23
has any bearing on who should be able to
19:25
own which firearms
